The MoveWell programmes presented herein, by the WorkForce Vitality team, are intended for use by employers, to provide to their employees, during the current national ‘lockdown’ in response to Covid 19. Please refer to the attached documents for you to print and use.
With so many employees working from home, and having difficulty sifting through the huge amount of “health/wellbeing/fitness advice” being thrust at them from multiple and varied sources, this programme offers a consolidation of best practice advice for simple, easy to follow movement/exercise regimens for them to use.
Included are 3 different movement plans for various sub-populations of people based on their current, self described, level of fitness. Each programme includes a few stretching exercises to prepare the muscles and joints for movement, and then a few strengthening exercises for each main body area (ankles/knees/hips/pelvis/spine/shoulders, etc). The plans are progressively more challenging based on the persons current ability.
As part of this programme, in addition to the basic movement plans provided we are introducing the NEW MoveWell pre-exercise (warm-up) programme. We have teamed up with NZ Navy Physiotherapist, Timothy Whale to boost your movement in a unique way. This part of the programme is integral to optimizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall programme.
Finally, and this is the best bit. We expect that many of you are now working from home, on a laptop, and are likely not sitting at an “ergonomically designed” workspace. Meaning that you are more likely to have postural stress from long term sitting in an environment that is challenging to you neck, shoulders and low back. So…..
Our physiotherapy guru, Timothy Whale, has also included two sitting posture videos to help you to have less discomfort while sitting to work at home. One related to the low back, and the other related to the neck and shoulders. These are simple trainings to show you how to sit using the right postural position, while doing this more efficiently, so as to cause less strain and pain in your spine and pelvis.
